The Charm
Backpacker.com puts it well...
Despite its growing sophistication, Búzios still maintains the right amount
of its fishing village roots, which lends itself a quaint, old world charm. The
various dining and lodgings in the village create an atmosphere that is very
special.
And the New
York Times asked 10 correspondents from all over the world where they would
escape to for a quick getaway. The winner? Búzios! Why?...
One hundred miles north of Rio, this jagged
peninsula reaches unexpectedly into the South Atlantic. Accidents of nature
have created alternating series of crashing cliffs and quiet coves. The hand
of man has created, first, a fishing village and, more recently, a community
of summer homes, fashionable restaurants and quiet inns...
...At the end of
the day, guitars come out in the village and the strains of old bossa nova
tunes are heard from sidewalk cafes.
Is it that great? We checked out the Búzios, Brazil -
Travel Blogs at travelpod.com to see what people thought and it was hard to
find somebody who had something bad to say. Same thing at the Virtual
Tourist blog which also has some great posts on what to do if you're going
to come for a visit. Of course, we're always happy to answer any questions so
don't hesitate to Contact Us
if you want to come and have a look. We'd be happy
to show you around.
The Weather
The climate in Búzios
is, in a word, fantastic. In June or July, it is rare but possible to get as low as
15C if the weather is wet and the wind from the southeast. In February, some
days can be very humid. The rest of the time the weather is always comfortable.
Today for example is June 11, the middle of winter, and the temperature is 24C (75F) with
not a cloud in the sky. If you go to holidayweather.com and check the average temperature for
Búzios, you will see it ranges only 4 degrees celcius (8F) from
coldest to hottest months of the year!!! Click here

The Security
Brazilians are peaceful and friendly but the reality is
that security is an issue in Brazil, but... not in Búzios according to Brasil-Travel-Guide.Com
which says
that
Búzios is one of the places in Brazil where you will find an "extreme (level
of) security". We walk all over Búzios any time of the day or
night without any fear for our security (and the stars at night,
wow!). Incidents do happen, as everywhere, but we imagine you
will feel safer here than where you are living now.
The People
Brazil is the home of many different nationalities, reflecting those that came,
fell in love, and stayed. Búzios is Brazilian first and foremost. Those who
come here are those who do not want to make their new home in the image
of where they came from. Unlike many communities found in Costa Rica, Mexico and
many other popular ex-pat destinations where you find communities of one
particular nationality, those who come to Búzios come because they
like it the way it is. Most newcomers, if they do not speak Portuguese, will undoubtedly
find others who speak their language but if you have no interest
in learning Portuguese it could get lonely. There are also many Argentinians who live
and visit Búzios so some Spanish skills will definitely help and if
you know some Spanish, you will find learning Portuguese less of a challenge. In lesser
numbers are 40+ different nationalities, especially French, among other
Europeans, North Americans, Norweigans, Australians. People, literally, have
come from all over the globe.
Búzios, with its white sand beaches, its crystalline
water, its palm trees, its coconuts, its beautifull half naked wives, and its
incomparable softness of living is often compared to Ibiza, or even with St
Tropez. It is at the time of the carnival and the weekends that the tourists
flow there in mass, the remainder of time, the village becomes again a haven of
peace.
"Softness of living". Well put. The above (slightly
edited) quote came from http://www.turquoise-voyages.fr/uk/destinations/brazil/buzios.html and
sums up our views pretty well.
The main difference from St. Tropez, however, is that Búzios is unpretencious still -
even after so much growth. You won't find jet skies here.
The Appreciation in Land
Values
Búzios real estate is not cheap compared to other
localities in Brazil. Búzios real estate prices cannot really be compared with
the prices of other parts of Brazil because it is unique. There are many nice
places to visit and invest in Brazil and it is a good idea to check them out.
Búzios, however, in addition to it's natural beauty has a character that very
few other locations share and people are willing to pay for it.
Here is our very own Stella Avellaneda quoted in the Financial Times of London (September 15 2006 - registration required for the entire article) on the Búzios real estate market:
Stella Avellaneda, an estate agent working in Búzios since 1974, expects the demand to continue in spite of the potential for messy land disputes. "The thing in Búzios is that every time I thought the property boom was over it would start up again," she says.
Supporting prices as well is limited land mass and
restrictive building codes that insist on low-density construction. Nevertheless, Orient-Express Hotels, ponied up in
2007...
. ..also the acquisition of 46 acres of land in Búzios where the
Company will construct a 40 suite hotel with nine super luxury residences, will
see the Company having a significant presence in Brazil.
From the company's 8K filed April 18, 2008.
Our own Stella Avellaneda offers this incredible fact...
Property located in the heart of the commercial area, sold for U$2.000 before Brigitte Bardot came, is today valued in U$1.500.000, or an annual increase of about 30%, without any changes in structure. For new investors, we point out where the opportunities are now that Búzios has grown, such as the properties listed on this site.
